About Kitchen Knife Sets

How many pieces should a kitchen knife set have?

A kitchen knife set should have as many pieces as you have jobs for. Ours come in 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 pieces, and each product page gives its piece count, steel and handle. For a single everyday blade, see chef knives.

What comes with a kitchen knife set?

Every kitchen knife set ships in one char leather knife roll, so the whole set stores and carries together. Handles are Pakka wood, rosewood, hardwood, resin, G10, micarta, wenge, sycamore, mother of pearl or steel.

Damascus or carbon steel kitchen knife set?

Choose a Damascus kitchen knife set for the pattern, or a forged carbon steel set for plain steel in a satin or forge scale finish. Dry either one right after washing. Compare Damascus knife sets, carbon steel kitchen knives, steak knives and gifts for cooks.

Common questions

What's the best knife set for chefs?

The best set is the one whose pieces match what you cook. Each product page gives the piece count, the steel and the handle, and every set ships in one leather roll. Read the piece count first, then choose the steel and handle.

Are ceramic knives better than steel?

Ceramic holds an edge but chips if it is dropped or twisted, and it cannot be sharpened on an ordinary stone. Steel can be honed and sharpened at home. That is why our sets are steel: Damascus, forged carbon steel, and a stainless set.

What is the difference between Damascus and carbon steel sets?

A Damascus set is pattern-welded 1095 and 15N20, which shows a layered pattern on the blade. A carbon steel set is forged plain steel in a satin or forge scale finish. Both rust if left wet, so wipe them dry and oil them. The stainless set needs less care.

Which handle material suits a kitchen knife set?

Pakka wood, resin and G10 take damp kitchens well. Rosewood, hardwood, wenge and sycamore are natural wood and last longest if you keep them dry and wipe them down. Mother of pearl is decorative and should be kept away from heat. Pick the handle you like to hold.

Can a kitchen knife set be engraved?

Yes. The blades of a set can be engraved as a paid option, which makes a set a good gift. The leather roll cannot be engraved, and neither can wood handles, so the name or date goes on the steel or on a resin or G10 handle.
