Kukri Knives

A kukri knife is a forward-curved, heavy fixed blade that combines a chopping tool and a camp knife in one, with blades from 10 to 14 inches. Most of this collection is forged carbon steel with a satin finish; one pattern is pattern-welded Damascus. Every one ships with a char leather belt sheath, from $159.

About Kukri Knives

What is a kukri knife good for?

The forward curve concentrates weight toward the tip, so a kukri chops and splits camp wood better than a straight blade of the same length. It also handles clearing brush and general rough cutting around a campsite. Pair it with a camp or bushcraft knife for finer carving work.

How do you sharpen a kukri?

Work the curve in short sections rather than one long pass, keeping a consistent angle as the edge sweeps from the handle to the belly and back to the tip. A ceramic rod or a small handheld stone follows the curve more evenly than a long bench stone. Read the knife care guide for the same routine used on the rest of the range, and see the Damascus Bowie knives for a straight-edged heavy blade instead.

Common questions

Is a kukri better than a machete?

For chopping wood, usually yes: a kukri's heavy, forward-curved blade hits harder than a thin machete of the same length. A machete is lighter and faster for clearing soft brush and grass. Our kukris run 10 to 14 inches of blade.

How much does a kukri knife cost?

Kukri knives in this collection run from $159 to $229, depending on blade length and steel. Most are forged carbon steel with a satin finish; one pattern is pattern-welded Damascus and costs more.

How do you care for a carbon steel kukri?

Dry it after every use, wipe on a thin coat of oil, and store it out of its leather sheath when it will sit for weeks. Carbon steel and Damascus both rust if left wet. Touch up the edge with a small stone or a ceramic rod.

What handle material comes on a kukri knife?

Most of our kukris have hardwood handles, shaped to fill the hand for a chopping grip, and one has a synthetic handle. Each kukri ships with a char leather belt sheath traced from its own blade, 10 to 14 inches.

What is the warranty on a kukri knife?

Every kukri here carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Returns are open for 30 days from delivery on a knife without engraving, and shipping within the US is free.
