Engraving is $19 a surface on a single knife, and a knife has up to three: blade, sheath and handle, though a wood handle takes none. On a set it is half that, $9.50 a surface on each piece. It is never free and never done by hand; the machine cut keeps the line sharp and the price fixed. Gift wrap adds $10 with a message.
A hunting knife takes a name or initials on the sheath; a chef knife takes them on the blade or its guard. A folding knife engraved on the blade suits a pocket carry gift, and a belt knife engraved on the sheath suits a fixed blade.
